Who is EGR?
End Poverty. Unite the Church. Heal a Broken World.
“That all might have life and have it in abundance.” (John 10:10)
Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation [EGR] is a grassroots movement of connection and collaboration for creative ministry seeking and serving Christ in the extreme poor around the world.
EGR is an independent nonprofit. We work with the Episcopal Church but have no official relationship with “The Episcopal Church” (also known as the national church, 815, the Church Center, etc.) and get no money from them. We enthusiastically promote the wonderful work being sponsored by Episcopal Relief and Development, the ONE Episcopalian Campaign and other Episcopalian organizations dedicated to engaging in the work of the MDGs.
Started with just a few passionate, talented people, this is an organization that has captured the imagination of the Episcopal Church and has grown into a full blown movement. Its comprised of youth and young adults, people who want to get up and do something with their faith, community organizers, radical dreamers, and YOU.
What is EGR’s mission?
- Direct the Church’s attention globally: Using the Millennium Development Goals as a structure for living out Christ’s call to seek and serve him in “the least of these” (Matthew 25).
- Make explicit the Christ center of the MDG movement: Draw people to this mission as a way to fulfill Jesus’ words “that all might have life and have it in abundance.” (John 10:10)
- Herald a call to conversion at every level of our common life: Lift up the opportunity and need for confession, repentance and amendment of life. Let Christ change us so we can be part of God’s mission of global reconciliation—individually and corporately.
What does all of this mean? It means that together with you, YES YOU, we believe we can end poverty, unite the Church, and heal a broken world.
